A sure sign,

that the Sparrow Hawk is hunting in the garden.

  2. Oh my. What pretty feathers. I wonder who they belong to? I know the hawks have to make a living but I always feel so sorry for their prey. There was a big hawk in our garden this week. Even the squirrels went into hiding.

      The pretty feathers are from a juvenile collared dove.
      It was sitting in the ornamental cherry tree when it was taken.
      The sparrow hawk is a regular visitor to the garden.

  3. We can tell when all the bird feeders are empty and a few birds are clinging to the side of the trees. The hawks are not so successful here because of the woods but still they do occasionally take a small bird. I know it's the cycle of life but still...
