Humming-bird??

When it hovers over a flower like a humming-bird, the wings of this moth beat so fast they are hardly visible,

and they make an audible, high pitched humming sound.
The Humming-bird Hawk-moth is a summer visitor from the South of France.

They have visited this garden for the last four years. I have planted Valerian to tempt her to stay a little while.

The first time I saw her I was totally captivated. Nothing has changed, I think she is exquisite.......

  2. Hi Cheryl,

Such a beautiful Moth, I don't think they ever venture this far north... Apparently they also love Lavender; when my brother was in China he took photos of them and there were loads all swarming around a lavender bush :)

  5. Great captures, Cheryl and what a pull red Valerian is. Thought you were in the Carribean for a moment instead of the tropics of Kent

  6. An amazing little creature! So glad it came to visit you. The first hummingbirds arrived here this weekend; no matter how many times I've seen them before, each time they return I'm thrilled.

  7. Finally--I was able to leave a comment! I read that I shouldn't tell Blogger to "remember me" when I sign in. I don't know if that is the answer to how I could leave a comment this time, but it seemed to work.

  8. Dear All,

Thank you all for your comments. Blogger has not allowed me to comment on my own blog for quite a while. Hopefully things are getting back to normal now.....

  9. I tried to comment a couple days ago Cheryl but blogger lost my witty comment! :-(
We get some beautiful moths of this sort here too. My fav being the Snowberry Clearwing! They are all so cheerful and fun to watch! Great photos and I hope you have them for many years to come!
