The sap is rising.......

Working in the garden today was an absolute pleasure.   Temperature rose to 19C (68F).
Bird song filled the garden.
The Spring meadow beneath the old apple tree is stunning.
I am so pleased I added more bulbs to this area last autumn.   I tend to forget what I have planted, so each day is a surprise........
I worked for eight hours in the garden today.    I  have spent all week cutting plants and shrubs back.   Back breaking work but I always feel so pleased with myself when it is completed.
I saw four queen bees today feeding on the heathers.    It is such a joy knowing that four bumblebee nests may be sited in the garden.    The sap is rising and Nella has Spring fever....do you???

Lets hope it will be warm and sunny for you at the weekend.

I watched birds bees and butterflies last night and was pleased to see that some was filmed in Sheffield. Glad to see they are improving on the plantings in parks etc (making them more insect friendly) Is that going well ??

  3. Hi Lisa,

    Boooooo, poor you.

Our weather will change at the weekend. I am hoping it will rain, as we are officially in drought.
Our reservoirs are only 40 per cent full. Bit of a worry so early in the year:(

  4. What amazing temperatures! It's been lovely here in Wales today, but not as warm as that. It was such a shame to have to go to work with the sun shining and the birds singing!
It sounds like you've got a lot done in the garden today. What's the flower in the second photograph?

    1. Hi Dan

Amazing temperatures indeed, I gardened in a T shirt.

The little flower is anemone blanda (the wind flower). They are such pretty little blooms, perfect for a woodland setting, providing they get some light.

  5. It was so wonderful and spring like wasn't it! Unfortunately I was up in central London so didn't get to enjoy the full glory out in nature.
All your bulbs are wonderful and those pale green hellebores are so beautiful.
I hope you are well, I have been thinking of you and your mother.
I finally weakened and set up a blogger account so I can leave comments, I don't know why it's stopped recognising my wordpress account. Hey ho!

    1. Hi Lucinda,

The hellebores are beautiful. I love pale green blooms.....so magical.

Mother is still very unwell, and I can now see this is much worse than I originally thought.
      Tku for asking.

Can't understand why your wordpress account did not work. I do have other account holders visit and they do not seem to have a problem....strange.

  6. Definitely spring fever around here. We have had many unseasonably warm days and I have loved each one. I'm especially grateful for the lengthening of the daylight hours.

  7. HI Cheryl...I am down right depressed..lol..after seeing your gorgeous flowers in bloom ..I could have spring fever and it wouldn't do me any good ...I would just be sick with a fever for for 2 month hahaa! ; }

Yesterday morning I got up to 3 inches of snow ( the first snow in 2 weeks) the sun came out and it got to be 55f all that snow melted and some that was already on the ground!! Today it rained at 45 degrees...
Now the bad part we may get up to 6 inches tommorrow night..around here it isn't over until it's over, and that could be right into May lol!!

    I just love the Spring Meadow so simple and elegant all at the same time...I can see yours and still anticipate what is to come for me!! : }
Have a good time in the garden
    Love Grace

    1. Oh Grammie,

Now I feel guilty.....poor you, all that snow. I do not envy you at all. As you know, the snow and me are not the best of friends.
Still when your Spring bulbs emerge mine will be but a distant memory.

It was a long note Grace but delightful to read. I always love to hear from you :)

    1. Hi Comfrey Cottage,

When I saw the bees feeding on the heather, my heart skipped a beat. Just to know they are nearby gives me such a thrill.
Honey bees joined them and it just spoke of what is to come. Bless the bees.

Now I feel really guilty, sring cleaning the house, oh dear, you have reminded me there is work to be done inside :)

  11. I would have gladly forgone spring inside cleaning, if our weather was such that I could work outside in the gardens! No guilt, Cheryl! Always chose to be outdoors and not inside if you can:) Housework can always wait, spring ephemeral beauty can not! xx

  12. Dear Cheryl, so sorry to read your Mother is still so unwell, I do hope things improve very soon.

Well, how Spring like it looks in your garden, so uplifting after the recent bad weather. Your flowers look so pretty. My garden has been very neglected lately but I hope to be able to do more in it this year. As I write this the sun has just come out and it looks like this afternoon may be as lovely as yesterday was.

  15. Dear Cheryl,
I am so happy to walk in your Spring garden this morning. It is lovely and makes me smile. The anticipation of Spring is very exciting. I hope you have Spring rain soon. Spring is coming early to my gardens. Soon I will plant lettuces in the kitchen garden. It always feels good to be in the dirt! Spring cleaning in the flower beds is the most important work to do. The bees and butterflies depend on us. I am so happy you saw Queens. Your gardens will be buzzing this year!
    Bzzzz,
    Sherry
