Slowly moving forward......in search of summer.

I love corners.     A microclimate, where the heat from the house keeps plants warm on cold nights.     Clematis, hydrangea and a pretty annual (whose name I cannot remember )
Beneath the kitchen window......an olive tree, white cosmos, fuchsia and agapanthus.     Cannot wait to see them in full bloom.
Planters are looking good.    I have six of these on the deck.
The weather has been so changeable, so each night I cover them with small poly tunnels.   It has worked well.
I am always scattering seeds at the end of the gardening year.
Honesty has appeared here and there.   I love the white, so was pleased to find this one at the end of the garden.   Lovely at dusk.
Red Campion dominates this garden in  late Spring.   A favourite with bees and night flying moths........and me :)
Rosa rugosa beneath the old hawthorn tree......the scent is amazing in this area.   The combination of rose and hawthorn fragrance is beautiful.
Planted the hanging baskets.....concentrating more on the container this year.     I love the black velvet petunia.....actually feels like velvet.
Sadly one of the first trees we planted here has departed.     Beautiful salix integra.....it will stay for a while.     Dominic likes to try and climb it.    I shall decorate with balloons when it is party time.    For the moment, the bird cage full of plants makes an attractive addition.................

  1. Hello Cheryl, I love to visit your blog as your garden is so beautiful, I have garden envy. Like you
I love white flowers. I just love your little Flower Garden container, it's brilliant. And my favourite photo is the last one (the tree) as I can see a (not quite sure what to call it) a body with a snout, two arms, and three feelers from the centre of the head.

    luv

  2. Like me, you have a vivid imagination Irene.......indeed, the tree looks like an Ent !!

I am pleased with the containers. I spied them in a shop in the village.

Have a good week....lets hope it gets warmer :)

  3. If only my garden was big enough for rosa rugosa, such a beautiful plant but it does need its space. I love honesty too but I've never grown the white variety, my lilac coloured plants have gone over now and they're displaying their seed pods, I'm looking forward to them turning papery. I remember my grandma having them as dried flowers in the house. It's such a shame when trees die but they do have their life spans like the rest of us. I hope Dominic enjoys climbing it whilst he still can.

    1. I love rosa rugosa.....a beautiful single bloom. I have the deep pink,........also a hedgerow of white. When the hips arrive, such a wonderful food source for the birds :)

I remember the seed pods from my Grandmother's garden.....they are lovely. It is the first time I have had them in this garden.

Dominic cannot quite manage to climb it yet, but he is working on it :)

  4. Thank you Cheryl ... as once again I've enjoyed my visit to your garden.

My top three highlights are definitely:

    1) the colours in your first photo - very calming I think

    2) your Rosa rugosa beneath the old hawthorn tree - I can almost smell the scent

    3) Love the 'flowers and garden' container plus the flowers in it - those colours go great together

I do also like your other photo's but just thought I'd put my top three !

Hope your bank holiday weekend went well

    All the best Jan

    1. Great weekend, thank you Jan......just wish the weather had been a little warmer :)

I would not normally buy black petunias but thought they went well with the pink container.
will be glad when they start to fill our a little but the cold weather is not encouraging them :(

  6. All of your containers are lovely. I can't believe you have cosmos blooming already. I really should get busy and toss some seeds around. Our hawthorns are blooming too. The Mock Orange shrubs are emitting the sweetest fragrance. MMmmmmmm I am inspired by your planted bird cage. I have a small one that needs some blooms. Maybe you should paint your dead tree Dominick's favorite color. :)

    1. I started the cosmos very early this year and kept them in the house.......that is why they are so large :) I only have three plants, rabbits crop cosmos so I do not put them in the garden.
      Love mock orange Lisa:)
Mmmmmm I know people paint dead trees but it is something I cannot get my head around Lisa. For me the beauty lies in the natural colours of a tree in its demise :)

  7. P.S. Beckie gave me a black petunia planted with a yellow one when we saw each other. Those black petunias are pretty.

    1. I have never bought black blooms before but I thought they would look good against the pink container, as they start to increase in size :)

  8. So sorry about your willow tree, Cheryl, but it looks so interesting as is. It reminds me of some stick figure sculpture I've seen--you might just decide you want to keep it! All your container collections are so pretty; I especially like the purple combo. I still have plants to put in the ground; it seems like I'm always behind this spring. My mom has not been doing well recently, so if I don't stop by to visit as often, that's why. I know you understand how difficult this can be.

  9. We lost a flowering crab apple tree and did the same thing you did with yours. Flowering baskets and decorative bird houses and we continued to appreciate the tree for quite some time.

  11. Hi Cheryl
Just getting round to reading everyone's blogs. I love your container garden - such interesting choices of plants. My containers are increasing overnight as if by magic - each year I say I am not going to have so many but each year they seem to increase. I think that white flower is sweet rocket not honesty but I may be wrong. The root of the white willow herb that you sent has sent up a long stem so I am hopeful of it flowering soon and the sisyrinchriums are going strong and producing flower buds - I'll post photos later so you can see the results of your kindness. And I really must get some Rosa Rugosa sometime - they smell divine don't they.

    1. Hi Elaine,
Glad the plants are doing well. It is always good to know that a little part of my garden has travelled to another one.........and continues to grow.

Thank you re sweet rocket.....I did wonder. I scattered honesty for sure but cannot remember if I did the same with sweet rocket. Once the seed heads develop I will know for sure.
Whichever it is they smell divine.....:)

Everything is growing quickly. Strange I decided I would cut down on containers and now seem to have more than ever. Honestly, us gardeners !!!!

      Enjoy the sunshine, beautiful day.
