We rented a bijou terraced house,
with wonderful views of the sea.
The weather was warm enough to eat breakfast on the balcony.    Surrounded by flowers, and listening to bird song.
We walked to the beach each day.      I would often peek at the walled gardens en route, the planting so different to mine, they became a constant source of  fascination.
We would walk for miles, stopping at beach bars for something to eat.
I would watch the birds and the odd stranger pass by.
Time to talk was the best thing.........when one's life is busy, and the coming together is infrequent, these times are precious.
Some days were spent in Mojacar village.    Steeped in history, it is a fascinating place.............I love the hanging geometry of its streets.
When you reach the village the view is wonderful.     The flat topped mound in the image is Mojacar la Vieja (old Mojacar).   Moorish remains have been found here, also bronze objects and Argaric buttons.
Modern plantings have been put in place in some areas......
I particularly like the courtyard garden in front of the entrance to the church.
Most of all I love to walk the narrow streets, and honour those that walked before me.    It has an air about it, something you cannot buy.    You will either feel it or not but there is a magic
that is priceless.

It was a wonderful eight days..................

  2. That must have been a wonderful week in the south of Spain, it's always nice to experience a place and landscape quite different than home, and the warmth and sun are beneficent.

    1. It is good to experience a different landscape Janneke. The problem is I bring ideas home with me ..........and I know in my heart they will never work here due to the colder climate :(

Oh yes the warmth and sun were definitely beneficial........

  3. It looks beautiful and sounds fantastic, time to just relax and take in your surroundings. You're right, we often don't have time to just sit and talk, quite the luxury these days. I bet Nella's glad to have you back though. Glad you had such a wonderful time.

    1. Hi Jo,

Time to talk properly is a rare commodity these days. With my husband still working and me in and out a lot of the time, it feels we are passing ships in the night sometimes :)

Nella was so excited to see me, and I could not wait to give her a hug.
      I always miss her............

  10. Hi Cheryl
It sound like you had a peaceful holiday - it is such a beautiful place - I shouldn't imagine there were many visitors at this time of year - or were there. It all looks and sounds idyllic - and I am sure you came home refreshed and ready to tackle all those gardening jobs that you left behind. I bet Nella was pleased to see you too.

    1. Hi Elaine,
Exceptionally quiet. Spain, like a lot of countries, seems to be going through a rough time.
We always use Spanish restaurants to support the local community. We have made many friends :))
      I also love Spanish food.
I feel refreshed but the garden will have to wait. I did a lot of thinking on holiday and decided there were other things that I wanted to do. I will play catch up with the garden in Spring.

I always love coming back to my little dog.......I really missed her. She did her usual four laps of the garden before she came to greet me. Same thing every time I go away :)

      Have a lovely weekend..........

  13. I also peep into gardens wherever I am! It is nice to glimpse how other people plant, particularly in another country. That ocean picture - wow - makes me want to get on a plane! I'm so pleased you had a good vacation. Time to be alone, to talk, to enjoy the beauty surrounding you and the magic of narrow streets and secret passageways.
