Someones secret summer, someones silent thoughts.

I walked the garden yesterday with my brother.

We are kindred spirits. We are similar in nature.

We talked about our parents. The changes sadden us both.
We work as a team, we share responsibility.

As he was leaving he told me how beautiful the garden looked.
Of course, I think it is beautiful but I am always surprised when someone else does.I love every inch of this garden. Before I moved here, I would day dream, imagining how the garden would look.

It has been with me all my married life.

If I live to be hundred, it will not be long enough to garden. I think I may garden in heaven. Ha! That is, of course, if I reach such high places.

Several weeks ago, when I walked the woods with Riley and Poppi, I stumbled across this rusty seat frame. How could anyone have such lack of respect for such a beautiful area. I carried it back to my daughters house and when I left put it in the car. I knew I could find a use for it (in the garden) and sure enough I did.

  1. It is said ... once a gardener, always a gardener ... wherever you may be Cheryl.
I have spent quite a few hours recently transporting one parent to and from hospital and just hope their is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Testing times as our loved ones get older. Take care and continue to enjoy your delightful oasis. FAB.

BTW the Sysyrinchiums you kindly gave me are in glorious full bloom.

  2. I am so happy to know that you have your dear Brother as back-up to care for your parents. It is a difficult job when just one child has all the responsibility. Of course he likes your garden. It is beautiful. I hope to see it in person one day. I know I will love it too. Good for you to find a use for an old chair. The little girl looks so happy perched there.

  3. Hi Frank,

True, so very true. I was gardening with my father age three.

Sorry to hear that your parents also have problems. These are difficult times.
You have had many troubles these last few years.
I do hope that light, at the end of the tunnel, grows stronger every day.

So please the Sisyrinchiums are blooming.
The lovely Aquilegia and Tellima, you kindly gave me, also bloomed and looked lovely in the garden.
Plant swap is great fun isn't it?

    Thinking of your and yours

  4. Hi Lisa,

I also hope one day you will be able to visit. Now wouldn't that be fun? You know you are always welcome......and your darling DH.

I could not leave rubbish in the wood. The old chair fits in well.....I like it, that is all that matters really.

    Have a lovely weekend.

  5. What a wonderful use for the chair frame Cheryl, the bronze I love so much looks even more perfect now!

I am so glad you and your brother are a team. My brother and I were the same with our parents. As the children of 'older' parents we encountered difficult times relatively early in life. I understand completely what a difficult time it is for you both and keep you in my thoughts ...

I am amazed that you should be surprised that anyone finds your garden beautiful Cheryl! I would be surprised if anyone didn't :)

    Have a good weekend.

  6. Hi Jan,

I think she looks lovely on the chair. I struggled to get her there. Getting her into the wheelbarrow was more than difficult.

My brother is great....I cannot fault him.
I remember you saying that you had taken care of your parents.....tku for caring, and holding us in your thoughts. I have always believed in the power of prayer and thought.

I truly never expect anyone to think the garden is beautiful, really. It is a trifle wild for most peoples taste but that is the nature of the gardener....I love wild areas....manicured lawns and neat borders have never appealed to me. I can appreciate them but I cannot love them.

We are in the middle of a hail storm.......it is as black as night and there is lots of banging.......I know I wanted rain but that is a little extreme....Ha!!

    Have a lovely weekend Jan.

  9. Hi Cheryl,

I'm glad you are able to share your memories with your brother, I have a similar relationship with one of my brothers we just 'get each other'. Although I may not agree with things, we just have a bond that's difficult to describe.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and that you continue to get rain to brighten the garden :)

  11. Hi Liz,

I understand. I have a strong bond with my brother. How fortunate we both are.
It is good to talk to him. We ae both close to our parents, so have an understanding that actually goes beyond words.

We have had more rain during the night. The garden is looking so much better. It is amazing how everything seems to have grown in the last few days......

    Have a lovely weekend.

  12. What a poignant post. I have not been around lately and need to catch up. I hope your parents are okay.
Nice to have a close brother. I feel like that with my remaining brother (our other one died a few years ago). We are both gardeners, and share this passion. This is one thing that brings us close.

Nice to have found good use for the rusted chair. I can't understand people who just leave things around with disregard for the environment.

Your flowers look so beautiful and I love the way you capture them with your camera.
    Sending gentle hugs, my friend

  13. Now, how did I miss this post?? What a lovely way to re-use the discarded seat frame--it looks as though it was specifically made for your garden reader. We have a problem here, too, with people dumping things along country roads. Just the other day I saw an old upholstered chair on the side of the main road into town. Perhaps it fell off someone's truck, but you would think they would have had the courtesy then to pick it back up.

I'm sure your garden is as beautiful in person as it appears in your photos, Cheryl, but it is always nice to have someone else voice their appreciation of it. It's good that you have your brother to help in caring for your parents. I am lucky, too, in having a great brother who is there when needed. Every time I see my father he seems so much frailer than he used to be; it's so hard to see our parents age.

Take care, Cheryl, and I'm sure that heaven has a huge garden waiting for all of us to take care--and there probably are no weeds there:)
