It just keeps on coming.........

Two inches of rain was forecast for today.   A months rain in 24 hours.     It seems they will be right.
The garden is like a swamp but to a degree, it should look like this, at this time of year.   The last two Springs have been dry but that is unusual for this area.
The temperature here is 7 C   (44F).....it is cold, too cold for April........
The garden is very lush and green.......and the grass, well, as you can see it is out of control :)

  1. HI Cheryl...Wow yes you have got some standing water for sure!!
    We just had 4 inches of rain in less that 24 hours!! The first rain we have had in 6 weeks, but it didn't have to come all it once..: {
Low snow total from the winter, and many days of way above normal temp's left us 6 inches below normal for rain or snow!! We have been on a severe fire forest fire alert for some time until this rain!!
    Sorry you can't get out and play in the gardens : }
I am of to have my left eye cataract removed today..will be glad when this one is done now that I have seen how great the right eye vision is !!!
Hopeing for better weather for you !!
    Love Grace

    1. Hi Grace,

Firstly hope all goes well with your eye surgery, shall be thinking of you.

We do need the rain Grace, but as you rightly say, why does it always come at once. Still sunshine and showers are forecast for the next few days....it will be good to see a little bit of blue :)

  2. The rain makes everything so miserable, I know we need it and I won't complain, but if it would warm up abit that would help!

  3. Goodness! Though just been watching the news and apparently it's not enough to make a difference to the hosepipe ban. It's like February all over again, just 6 degrees when I was driving home today. Our grass too, is out of control (much moreso than yours), but it's too wet to cut.

    1. HI Dan.

Apparently the hosepipe ban is in place until Christmas.
It is raining now (Thursday morning)....heavy rain. I am hoping it is just a shower and maybe, just maybe the sun will come out :)

  4. We managed to reach a whopping 5 degrees today. Glad I mowed the lawn yesterday, but I think it's already grown back again. And apparently, we're not going to get our heavy rain until tomorrow. Don't know what we had today then, it certainly wasn't drizzle.

  5. Dear Cheryl,
The bees will be happy to have some sun! Do hope it warms up some for you. We are at least a month ahead on bloom times....crazy, crazy weather.
Stay dry and warm my friend...

    1. Dear Sherry,

Sadly one bumblebee nest is flooded....I doubt they will have escaped.
Also a leaf cutter bees nest is swimming in water so doubt the new bees will emerge.
Both bees had their nests in the ground. I always mark them when I find them, so that I do not dig near them.
Poor bees.....I feel so sad this morning :(

      Bless the bees.....

  6. I have had quite enough of the rain for the moment, I know we need it etc etc but I need a bit of blue sky and sunshine now. How sad that your bee nests are suffering, my grass is soggy but at least it isn't underwater!

    1. Rowan, What can I say, other than I agree with you. It really is depressing, isn't it.

Yes, very sad, I was so upset when I saw that the nests were flooded.

  7. Hi Cheryl,
Yes it's so chilly isn't it, I am sat here working wrapped in my blanket. :) And the wind is just howling and howling. It looks like you could go out for a morning swim there!
I'm sure the plants and trees must be sighing with relief though. xx

    1. Hi Lucinda,

Wrapped in a blanket sounds good. The wind is very strong today, a couple of small branches have come down in the garden and the outdoor mats by the front door have disappeared. I shall try to find them later :)

I would go out for swim but sadly that is one thing I cannot do....ha!

  8. Your gazebo is calling to you to come out to sit and watch the rain gathering in the garden. Isn't it wonderful??!! Be sure to take a blanket out with you. It will feel even more chilly with the dampness. We could use some of that rain here too.

    1. Hi Lisa,

The summerhouse can keep right on calling....there is no way I am walking through the swamp, I mean garden, to get there:)

      Sending you some of ours......

  9. This spring has brought an amazing gamut of weather fronts. I cannot recall ever turning the heat on and off so often. It's pouring rain here again today. Good for knitting or reading but not anything outdoors.

  11. Oh dear, we could certainly use some of your rain, but I'll be careful what I wish for. I was just thinking yesterday that we had May flowers in March and March winds in April, so I'm wondering whether May will finally bring April showers:) But no flooding, please! Brr, it does sound cold there--stay warm!

    1. Hi Rose,

You would be most welcome to some of the rain. We are expecting more during the next four days, so I think I may grow webbed feet :)

Hope you get some gentle showers Rose.

  12. We too could use some rain. We had a bit, but not nearly enough. And it's back to winter here all last week. Everyone has come down with colds and flu. Not nice.
But, warm temps are predicted for the coming week.
