Sunday safari

I'll tell you how the sun rose
A ribbon at a time
The steeples swam in amethyst
The news like squirrels ran.
The hills untied their bonnets
The bobolinks begun
Then I said softly to myself
That must have been the sun!

I'll tell you how the sun rose....
Emily Dickinson.

The female blackbird looks as surprised as I am to see the sun two mornings in a row.
Rain is forecast for tomorrow but today I am going to enjoy every moment of blue skies and sunshine.

Happy Sunday Safari.

  1. Yay for sunny weathers. Get out and enjoy it while you can. Love pictures of the falcate and your Blackbird. It has been overcast here but refuses to rain. I should plan a garden party with 30 people invited and that should get it to rain.:/

  2. Hi Lisa,

Couldn't you sleep. You are up very early.....5.30 am ? Is that right?

The orange tip is a regular visitor here.....I have their host plant in the garden.

You should ask Sherry to send the Rain Dragons....it certainly worked on my gardens, although they did get a little over zealous :)

  3. It's been wonderful to see the sun hasn't it? I was up on Blackamoor at 7.30am and saw rabbits and a fox and heard two cuckoos calling - a May morning as it should be. I was out for two and a half hours and really enjoyed it.

    1. Hi Rowan,

Absolutely just how a May day should be.
I walked Nella across the fields for nearly two hours and it was wonderful. I heard the Cuckoo and discovered a new to me wildflower, which I have yet to identify :)

    1. Yes, they visit regularly.
They have been around for several weeks now, although making brief appearances due to the persistant rain.

  5. Hi Cheryl,

Glad to hear you've had some nice weather.

So jealous you managed to snap an orange tip, again! I never manage it. Yesterday I was weeding my parent's again and saw one. Ran to get camera and nup. Off it had gone. Also saw a tiny blue butterfly a few times but all I managed to get was a blur of it :(
Teeny tiny though; definitely too small for a common blue.

Let's hope the forecast is wrong for tomorrow and you get some more sun :)

    1. Hi Liz,

I was actually crawling around on my knees trying to get that image. Nella kept coming up and sniffing me as though I was very slightly mad :)
I saw a blue yesterday, pretty sure it was the holly blue.
Hope you manage to get an image of the teeny tiny blue, would be very interested to know its id.

It would be wonderful to have another warm day, I am tired of being wet and cold :(

  6. It has been a beautiful weekend, hasn't it? Beautiful picture of the butterfly, and I love the puzzled expression on the blackbird's face.
    Wonderful lines by Emily Dickinson.

  7. What joy, the sun at last, it's so nice to feel on your face isn't it!
I love your orange tip, what is it's host plant?
I saw a pair of holly blues yesterday, flirting around a faery hawthorn tree, it was very magical.
A few more days like it would be nice wouldn't they.

    1. Dear Lucinda,

Such a lovely weekend...it was good to get down on my knees and weed the beds.....

The host plants for orange tip: Cuckoo flower and garlic mustard, both of which are in abundance this year :)

A few more days of warmth would be wonderful

    2. They are both brassica family aren't they? I love them both so will have to start encouraging them into the garden. :)

    3. Hi Lucinda,

Yes, they are. They will use other members of the brassica family but could not remember them of the top of my head :)

  8. How do you get the butterflies to pose for a photo ? The ones in my garden are very shy.

    1. Hi Crystal,

I could say it is easy but I would be fibbing. It takes a lot of time and patience :)

  9. Dear Cheryl,
I am so happy the Sun Dragons arrived! They can be slow pokes!
The Rain Dragons were invited to Colorado but as soon as they finish with their visit
I will ask them to stop at Lisa's before returning to your gardens. That should give you a few more days of sun!
Love the Orange Tip! Such a lovely butterfly. I too crawl about snapping photographs of the butterflies. Often I will just sit down in a clump of clover!
    Happy Sunny Sunday Safari,
    Sherry

  10. Dear Sherry,

Ha! I am sure Lisa will be so grateful :) Sun Dragons are so very welcome at this time....the ground is taking a long time to dry out.

Clover is wonderful for bees and butterflies :(

    Happy Sinday safari

    1. Hi Jan,

I understand, this Spring has been a let down. I feel so sorry for those who wait for this time of year, Mr P comes to mind. He loves the Spring and Summer. I just hope we get some warmer days during the summer months.
