Time to dream........

Dreaming swan is a 'new to me' Japanese anemone.    The large semi double flowers open tinged pink and turn to white.
The blooms are gracefully carried on wiry stems, which dance and sway in the breeze.
The flowers have lavender blue bands on the reverse of their petals.    When the sun shines on them, they look so pretty.
Early morning dew also adds to the picture.
Early this morning I found a creature fast asleep in a flower.

Japanese Anemone dreaming swan is a long flowering perennial.    It is said to be deer and rabbit resistant.
I think it would look lovely planted among grasses.
I may try this next year.    I have divided some feather grass recently and have 12 little plants in the greenhouse.
Watch this space.

Enjoy your weekend and the lovely warm weather we are experiencing at the moment.

  1. What a gorgeous anemone. Of course I love the name. Any plant with the name of a bird makes it onto my 'wish' list. My fall blooming anemones are making buds. It won't be long before they bloom too. We are in a dreadful drought right now. Praying for rain and a bit of relief from the heat and humidity. Maybe today will be the day we get some much needed rain. I am glad you are getting some of this heat over your way. I have some white anemones poking up through the black berries. They help hide the dieing canes. I love your header photo. Have a great week...and I will be watching for other posts.

    1. I love the name Lisa.....I am a dreamer so it seemed to fit the bill :)
I think it needs a good mulch in autumn to protect it from cold winters, so do not know how it will do in your part of the world.
We have had a mixed summer. Warm weather with rain here and there. Certainly no drought at this time.
I do hope you get some much needed rain soon......

Have emailed you this week........hope you received it.

      Have a fun weekend.

  2. How lovely is that flower. Such a fitting name too. My Japanese anemones haven't starting flowering yet - it is nice to see some late summer flowers blooming, the only colour I have in the garden right now are my container plants. At this time of year the garden starts to look a bit scruffy and rough round the edges - trouble is there are only so many hours in the day and it all seems to get away from me, when the wildness that I like just gets out of hand - I guess we just have to keep plodding on, one job at a time. Have a lovely week my friend and enjoy your beautiful garden.

    1. I agree with you Elaine.........this time of year the garden turns from being full of flowers, to a fading that all too often does not look attractive. My garden is much the same.
In fact, yesterday I removed some plants from the borders. This week I shall go to the nursery to replace them with autumn flowering plants.

Hope your week is a good one and the sun is shining for you.

  3. This one is so pretty, and I do love the name, too. I noticed my anemones are forming buds, so I'm lucky forward to seeing their blooms soon. Like Lisa, we have had little rain the past few weeks and it's been incredibly hot, so my garden is really suffering. The forecast is promising several rainy days this week, so I hope they are right. I can't believe it's almost fall!

    1. I hope you get some rain soon Rose. Drought is so difficult for us gardeners and the wildlife.
I always find weather is the main topic for those that tend the earth :)

      Have a good week Rose.

    1. Dreaming swan likes moisture in the soil, so my dear friend, it would probably fail in your hot conditions.
Of course, there may be other anemones that fit your climate.

      Have a wonderful week........

  8. Hi Cheryl,

Lovely photos of a wonderful plant; I am loving the pink tinge. I just wish I could grow anenomes here... Long since given up trying. I still get jealous of the house just down from us who has then in their front garden. I can't decide whether to take it as a personal insult!
