Today I.............

Today I thought of summer plantings........
 I watched a robin take a bath.
I visited an elderly couple in the next village and bought some organic produce.
 I studied the flowers..........
 and smelt their sweet perfume.
Abelia Grandiflora was my Mothers favourite shrub.
Today I missed her voice...........

  2. Is that abelia grown in a tub? I have tried an abelia before and didn't have luck with it. It is such a sweet delicate looking plant especially when it blooms. That robin is sweet too. Love that bird bath. What is it made of? Another flower I can't seem to grow is lavender. I see the Spanish (?) lavender in the first photo with all the geraniums. Everything in your garden looks so healthy. My poor garden is looking tired...like me. We spread another truck load of mulch today. It was too hot to be doing a job like that. I am worn out. We should have done this in February. ha...

    1. Yes Lisa the Abelia is in a tub. Another rabbit favourite so I cannot put them in the ground.
French lavender. I will have to move them to the greenhouse in the Winter because they do not like the rain.
Spreading mulch this time of year is hard. So exhausting.
Our temperatures are back to normal today. We had 34C (98F) on Wednesday. I cannot cope when it is so hot, it is draining. I do not know how you manage with your very hot Summers.

      Have a good weekend.

    2. Forgot to say the bird bath is made of wood. I bought it around six years ago. It looks better with age.
Birds love it, especially Robins and Collared Doves.

  4. What a lovely way to spend the day--I just love that first photo! I haven't spent much time at all in the garden lately, other than walking around it. I have been working on a baby quilt for my daughter, and that always brings back memories of my mother, who was an accomplished quilter and seamstress. I like to think we are carrying on their legacies, Cheryl. Have a wonderful week!

  6. Dear Cheryl
I am so far behind visiting my favourite people - I haven't quite got my blogging mojo back yet after our break - sometimes I just don't feel like getting back into it all, do you feel like that sometimes. But back to your dreamlike post, sounds like you are reflecting on the lovely things you appreciate in your garden all of which I concur with. The robins have returned to their singing once more, a sound I am always pleased to hear. The garden is winding down now, exhausted after all the hot weather we have been having - thank goodness it has cooled a little, I am much happier in the cooler weather. I suffered from heat exhaustion in the week when I tried to carry on doing work outside, when really I should have been taking it easy in the shade, but there is so much to do to put the garden to bed, all sorts of clearing and pruning, I find it hard to sit back and just appreciate the garden!!!

It has been raining this morning, but the sun is just starting to break through weakly, the garden really needs the rain and has perked up a little :). Have a good week and enjoy the beginning of Autumn.

    1. To answer your question Elaine.....yes i often feel like that. I struggle with blogging most of the time but would really miss my blogging friends if I decided to stop.
I wonder how long we will last. Do you think we will be 80 something and still posting :) I wonder ??

Enjoy the changeable days of Autumn, Winter will not be far behind for sure.

    3. Hi Patricia,

I have been thinking about this format for a while.
I have decided to use it regularly as it seems to work quite well....

Of course, you can use it.

    1. Hi Jan.

The elderly couple grow the produce. The use the money to feed their rescue animals. They are wonderful people and I like what they are doing. It is great produce, they pick it daily......
