Run rabbit run..........

Rabbits are a huge problem here.   There is rarely a day without some sort of damage.   This morning I was surprised to see some of my beautiful foxgloves lying on the ground.   They had not been eaten, foxglove rarely are.   It does tell me that another litter of kittens has left the warren and that they are on a tasting spree.
Whilst I struggle with any form of control, sadly it is a necessity.   Without Nella I would not have a garden for birds bees butterflies and many other creatures.
Nella is a born hunter.   She is swift and does not torment her prey.   I like to think that it is the kindest option but after eight years it still does not rest easy.    When I see the poor creature lifeless, I always feel a tinge of sadness.

We can't change who we are, or how we feel but we can learn to live with it.....................

  1. Nella knows what to do with those rascally rabbits. She is a good girl. So does Annie. Even so a rabbit ate my new geranium 'Hocus Pocus'. I was so mad at the rabbit but the geranium did come back with leaves. It probably won't bloom this year tho. Darned rabbits...

    1. Hi Lisa,

It has been a bad year so far, rabbits have eaten many plants, dug at the roots of conifer (lost two).....and now have several latrines in the garden.
I twisted my ankle last week, such a large hole and I did not notice it. I keep filling it in but the rabbits keep digging it out. Seems ongoing at the moment.

  2. Control by nature is the best kind. And Nella is a great example. I often see bunny tails and fur from coyote kills. It's nature's way and like Nella, the coyotes are efficient.

    1. Yes Nella is effiecient. I do not know what I would do without her to be honest.
She is such a good dog.

  3. Hi Cheryl
Thankfully we don't have a problem with rabbits I know they can be very destructive. Our problems are with something much larger - badgers, especially after a dry patch. We are never sure how they get into the garden, and have blocked off any hole that looks like a likely badger run. They do so much damage - digging holes, using them as latrines, tipping over pots. My attitude is generally live and let live but I do get to the end of my tether sometimes.

    1. Hi Elaine,

We do get badgers on the odd occasion, they do not seem to do much damage here. Keeping my fingers crossed as I type this:)

Live and let live is the best policy.................

  4. Ha ha, I've done a post about rabbits today, on a totally different topic though. It must be so hard when you're garden is destroyed by rabbits, luckily we don't have that problem in either the garden or on the allotment.

    1. Hi Jo,

It is difficult gardening here, especially when you are an animal lover.
I have nothing against rabbits I just wish they would leave the garden alone............

  5. I've always thought rabbits were so cute--in fact, we had a pet rabbit once. But after so many of my tulips got eaten by the rabbits and the deer this spring, my heart is a little harder. Still, when Sophie brings me a furry bone she's found, it does make me sad. Nella is doing what comes naturally and good for her, though, if you're like me, you'd rather not see the results.

  6. Hi Rose,

For sure I do not like to see the results. I still have a soft heart and that will never change,,,,,that is just the way it is.

    Have a good weekend
