Hi Cheryl. Lovely pics of a recently emerged immature male Southern Hawker. (Full info in separate e-mail).
How wonderful.....I saw it gently beating its wings and wondered if that was the case.I could have sat there all day watching it.Tku so much for the id.........
This creature looks wonderful, so exciting you could make such beautiful pictures.
It is amazing....I am so pleased to see it in the garden.
What a beautiful dragonfly! I haven't seen one that looks like this before. Great photos.
Isn't it beautiful Lisa....I am sure you would be able to paint it.A good blogging friend who is a bit of an expert on them tells me it is a recently emerged Southern Hawker.
What fantastic photos. Truly wonderful.
Thank you Jo, very kind.........
Stunning photos Cheryl.. love, love dragonflies :o)
I thought you might Julie :)
They are truly exquisite aren't they. You were lucky to be able to get some good photos - whenever I see them round our pond they seem to spend most of their time whirring hither and thither. We did see loads when we were at the country park but they were all a very dull brown.
Someone, who I consider to be a bit of an expert, tells me it is a recently emerged immature male Southern Hawker. I keep records about wildlife in the garden, so it is wonderful when someone can give me a positive id.Such beautiful creatures...........
Amazing photos, Cheryl! I've never seen a dragonfly like this one before. I love the lacy wings; it's hard to see this intricate pattern when they're flying about.
So much detail Rose, that we miss with the naked eye. I believe this is why I love my camera so much :)

You always capture such lovely photographs. Too bad so many fail to stop and look for these beautiful creatures.
Thank you so much. There is so much beauty around us. For me, there is nothing so calming as watching a creature sitting quietly.............
What amazing close ups! They are beautiful creatures, so graceful.
Tku Paula,Indeed they are very graceful. I often watch them feed in the borders and am amazed at their agility.
