Autumn knocking at the door......

I love this time of year.
Walking the path to Autumn is a journey I treasure.
 I love the colours............
 the scents.........
 and the shadows.
Autumn flowers will bring a smile,
and the garden will be full of hips, haws and berries to help the birds through winter.

Cooler days and nights are better for a woman of a certain age :)

What is your favourite season and why ?????

  1. I love autumn for the very reasons you state. Besides I get worn out with summer heat. Surprisingly this summer I am not feeling so darned worn out. I think because this year our summer has been more like one of your summers. Yes, we have had a little heat but nothing to break your spirit. I think you posted on my 'path' post just as I was posting my August bloom day post. I absolutely love your photos on this post. They are very artistic and show your subjects beautifully. I hope you are having a great weekend.

    1. Hi Lisa,

I think we have had your summer. It has been way too hot and humid for me.
I think I now understand why your struggle in long hot summers.
I have found this one most difficult...........a return to something like normal would be great.

      Tku re photographs.............very kind.

  2. Hi Cheryl
It is all about the weather for me - I love the optimism and hope that spring brings on bright warm days - Love the early summer days before it gets too hot - love warm hazy autumn days but not the rainy grey dreary ones and crisp days of winter with bright sunshine but not those when the cold seeps into your bones. So I guess I'm an all-year-round kinda gal as long as the weather is good. Funny really just how the weather affects me and my mood however optimistic I try to be - sometimes it just ain't easy.

    1. Oh Gosh Elaine, my Mother could have written that. The weather dictates her moods a lot of the time. It is wonderful that you enjoy all seasons..........there is beauty to found in all months of the year.........

  3. Summer is my favourite season, it's seemed all too short though this year as it looks as though autumn is definitely knocking on the door. My plants are looking tired and the weather is a total let down for August, high winds again today and more rain is forecast.

    1. I agree Jo, although summer is third in line for me, I do agree with you that it seems to be very short one this year. Perhaps that is because it has been a long hot summer, and lets be honest most people enjoy that..........I am one of the few that struggle with the heat.

  4. Spring was early this year, summer was early and autumn is early too. When I see pictures of September last year there were more flowers in the garden then at this moment in the middle of August. For me this year it is as if summer is a bit too short, I don´t know why. But what about favourite season concerning nature : 1. spring, 2. autumn, 3. winter, 4. summer.

    1. Hi Janneke,

  5. When we lived in snowy, gray Wisconsin, I hated winter. Here in the NC mountains it is my favorite season. The hiking trails are no longer filled with loud visitors. The folks who hike in winter are true nature lovers. The bare trees allow views of beautiful rock formations. The snakes are hidden away. The pantry is stocked for the occasions when snow and ice keep us confined to the mountain. But I do love spring. And summer. And autumn. I'm always ready for the seasons to change.

    1. What a wonderful description of winter in the mountains.....I nearly jumped on a plane to join you :) I suppose every season as something to offer, depending on where you live.

  6. What lovely images, Cheryl. Usually I am eager for autumn and its respite from the summer heat. This year, though, we have had such a great summer that I'm not quite so ready. Still, I have come to love autumn more and more each year. Spring is still my favorite season, though; after a winter of bleak gray and white days, it's always such a thrill to see those first signs of green emerge from the soil. And, of course, I love my tulips:)

    1. hank you Rose,
You sound as though summer has been more or less perfect this year.
The intense heat of our summer left me struggling.....to be honest I am so glad that autumn is nearly here.

Spring is a lovely time of year, it gives us hope. Your tulips were wonderful this year, I am not surprised you loved them :)

  7. Hi Cheryl, you take some beautiful photos of flowers, your post inspired me to go out and find some wild fruit and berries, the wind was blowing, not great for photos but reminds me of a time on my aunty's farm during the summer months( it was all ways windy there). Spring is my favourite time of the year then Autumn.
Look forward to reading some more of your posts...

    1. Hi Amanda,

How lovely to spend time on a farm......I use to spend some of the summer holidays with Gramps and Nannie, they had a small holding, it was amazing and a very special time in my life.

      Enjoy your week :)

      Have a lovely

  8. Oh gosh! Those are just amazing close ups. If your garden looks that beautiful up-close, it must be spectacular in a wider view. Anyway, my favorite season would have to be winter. I know the freezing weather is bad, but I love Christmas more than any holiday. Also, on a perfect day with the perfect snow, everything just looks so white and almost magical. Thank you so much for sharing the lovely pictures. I wish everyone the best of health!
