Raindrops keep falling on my head...

I crept into the garden early.    The Grandchildren were still sleeping.   Mr P was on his way to Bristol for a meeting.   I wanted to spend a quiet moment in the garden looking at  raindrops.
There is such beauty in a garden.......if we take time to stop and stare.
Reflections in a raindrop......what do you see ????
As I strolled around I noticed a Clouded Yellow.    A regular migrant from Southern Europe.
It feeds on marjoram, clover and thistles, I am pleased to say I grow these so it should be happy in the garden should it decide to stay.     Sadly, it will not survive our wet winters.

Overnight rain has refreshed the garden.   Temperatures have dropped to around 24C (78F).
Pleasant for the garden and the gardener :)

  1. Thanks for sharing these lovely pictures with us. I love the garden after rain don't you? One thing I used to notice when we lived in France was that the earth didn't smell the same as English earth after rain - wonder why?

    1. That is fascinating Jane. I wonder why that is.
I too love the garden after rain when it has been hot and dry for a while.
      Have a great weekend.

  2. Hi Cheryl.
It was good to see some rain at last to refresh the plants and cool us all down.

You captured the after effects and the Clouded Yellow perfectly.

  4. The rain looks great. I am awaiting a cold front that they say is coming through tomorrow evening. I hope we get a lot of rain. We need some now. Love seeing all of these blooms and especially the sweet butterfly.

    1. Hi Lisa,
Hope the rain reaches you. We are expecting the tail end of a hurricane from across the pond......possibly wet and windy weather on Sunday (children's karting day so hope not)

  5. What a tranquil post - and lovely raindrop shots. It is a relief when the temperature drops a little, we have a few little bouts of rain, not enough to make that much difference though - the watering still goes on.

    1. Hi Jo,
I had them in the garden several years ago....that year we also had a long hot summer.
Hopefully they will stay a while.

  7. I am glad we have had some rain too, it was really to dry. I know it´s lovely to be outside early when everything is quiet and silent and than the raindrops, beautiful........ I was amazed to see that Clouded Yellow, I saw for the first time about 10 days ago a big yellow butterfly in my garden, I stared some time at it and got inside to get my camera, when I came back the butterfly was still there but I could not photograph it because it was high on a Buddleja and then it flew away. I have not seen this yellow one again. So nice to see such a yellow butterfly on your blog.

    1. Hello Janneke

My favourite time of the day is dawn.....I love the silence, when nothing is stirring but me :)

The Clouded Yellow is so pretty, especially when in flight. I have read it does not open its wings when settled on a plant, only in flight. I watched as it flew around the garden, very beautiful.

  8. Great photos--the rain always seems to make everything even more lovely. We had a cloudy, cool day yesterday, just perfect for working in the garden. Today a gentle rain is falling, which means I have no excuse to get to some neglected housework:) Have a wonderful weekend, Cheryl!
